PROJECT 2: CONTEXTUAL FIT
The aim of this project is to adapt the existing building known as the Smith House, designed by Richard Meier in 1965. You are approached by a client that wishes to expand their current home (the Smith House), but who also want to retain its architectural integrity. To do this the systems that are contained within the original design must be understood and expanded upon, rather than being altered or destroyed.

CONTEXTUAL ANALYSIS:

NARRATIVE:
A former NFL player has bought the Smith house and wants a new addition to the house. He has a wife and two kids. After playing in the NFL for so long he has a physical therapist come to his house 4 times a week in order to recover. He has asked for an office area for managing his sports talk show host career. His wife loves yoga and its more than a hobby to her. She wants to teach classes from the new addition. The couple both have agreed that they like columns and lots of windows. They do not want to compromise the architectural integrity of the Smith House itself.
RANK:

ORIGINAL DESIGNS INCLUDED
Through out the planning process of this project I aimed at extruding the structure and following the circulation pattern that was in the original Smith House. I took key components from the original design such as the chimney, stairs, windows, columns, and beams.I did this so I wouldn't compromise the architectural integrity of the Smith House.
